Intermission

I don’t normally do this - what am I talking about, this is only my seventh post. I don’t “normally” do anything. I read this web comic called Penny Arcade (some of you know it), and the post today caught my attention. The writer of the comic is introducing the new son of his partner (the artist), and makes an interesting observation about life:

“Consider that we might live absolutely encompassed by marvels and wonders. I am suggesting that we are up to our asses in signs and portents that we are quick to omit or can’t interpret.”

It’s a good point. Often we run around looking for miracles and wondering why they don’t happen. Maybe the problem is with our perception rather than with reality. Read the whole post to see where he’s coming from. I will warn you though that he is sometimes crude, often funny, and always a geek - just in case any of those things offend you.

Incredibly humorous author Terry Pratchett has put forth a similar concept in many of his “Discworld” novels - that humans can’t handle things the way they are, and so see things that aren’t there (and have difficulty seeing what truly is there).
I’m starting to think more and more of something related to this. Perhaps this is God’s handwriting in the Universe: that story elements that constantly recur are patterns that point to the True Story, which all of us long to hear. The details of this worldview are not yet cemented, and….how do I say this?….it might not be as important to some people as it is to me?…regardless, I think it is the case that the Universe is more marvelous than we give it credit for, because its maker is Marvelous.
    “Grandes son tus maravillas”, indeed.
